WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam Szubin will travel to Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom next week to discuss the anti-Russian sanctions and ongoing fight against the Islamic State (IS, ISIL or Daesh), the US Treasury Department announced in a release on Friday.
"Discussions will focus on key joint US-European counterterror finance work, including efforts to disrupt and destroy ISIL and ongoing sanctions targeting Russia for its destabilizing activities in Ukraine," the release said.
During his December 7-10 trip, Szubin will also discuss with his European counterparts the current state of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and outline preparations to meet US sanctions relief commitments.
The European Union, the United States and their allies introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions in 2014, accusing Moscow of meddling in the Ukrainian conflict between Kiev forces and independence supporters in the southeast. The claims have been repeatedly denied by the Kremlin.
The ceasefire in eastern Ukraine is reported to have been fully observed since September 1.
Following the Normandy Four foreign ministers meeting on Ukrainian crisis in November, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the results of talks on Ukrainian reconciliation exceeded all expectations.
