MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – The country’s national elections council head, Tibisay Lucena, said earlier the MUD has received 99 seats in the parliament.
"We can talk about anything from 100 mandates to 113 seats in parliament," Ramon Aveledo told RIA Novosti.
Aveledo underscored that the coalition made gains in regions traditionally leaning toward President Nicolas Maduro’s United Socialist Party of Venezuela. The party was said to have won 46 seats in the unicameral National Assembly.
The MUD leader stressed the need for mutual partnership in the "new stage" in relations between Maduro and the parliament.
Maduro signed a document in late October vowing to respect the election results.
The newly formed National Assembly begins work in January 2016.
