STOCKHOLM (Sputnik) – Sweden and Ecuador could sign a bilateral agreement on judicial cooperation, by the end of the year, that could be used to question WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, Swedish Justice Ministry official Cecilia Riddselius said Tuesday.
"We are close to the aim and we hope that the agreement will be ready…before Christmas and we do not exclude that it can be signed after the decision on the issue is made at the government meeting on December 17," Riddselius told RIA Novosti.
Earlier this year, she said that the bilateral agreement did not concern the case of Assange, in particular but Stockholm hoped to use the agreement to question the WikiLeaks' founder in the future.
Assange, who has been residing in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for over three years, has been wanted by the Swedish authorities since 2010 over accusations of unlawful sexual coercion and rape. Three of the four charges against Assange recently expired.
