KIEV (Sputnik) — The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday that Russian citizens were detained during a special operation in the country, the press-secretary of the Russian Embassy in Ukraine said.
Earlier on Thursday, the Ukraine's Security Service announced of the detention of a criminal group of Russian and Ukrainian citizens involved in smuggling weapons from European countries.
"The Russian Embassy received a notification from the Ukrainian side on detention of Russian citizens, and is currently preparing documents to get access to the detainees," Oleg Grishin told RIA Novosti.
The special law enforcement operation was carried out in three Ukrainian regions, namely eastern Dnipropetrovsk and western Volyn and Lviv regions. One of the criminal group's members and a special forces Alpha Group soldier were killed during the operation.
