MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Armed Forces will conduct more than 4,000 military exercises in 2016, including full-scale drills, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov said Friday.
"The main [exercises] in this set of events will be the Kavkaz-2016 strategic command and staff drills," Bulgakov said at a meeting between Russian Defense Ministry representatives and President Vladimir Putin.
He added that the state budget provided the defense ministry with everything it needed to hold the military exercises in 2016.
According to Bulgakov, the Russian Armed Forces will use their military equipment in the exercises to the maximum.
Russia is currently undergoing a $290-billion rearmament program to modernize 70-percent of its military by 2020.
