PARIS (Sputnik) — The work on the draft text of the UN climate deal nears completion, owing its success to the herculean efforts made by the negotiators in Paris, French Foreign Minister and COP21 President Laurent Fabius said at the Paris Committee meeting Saturday.
"We are almost at the end of the path and no doubt at the beginning of another. The draft final outcome which will be distributed obviously owes a great deal to the progress made here in Paris," Fabius told the negotiators.
He stressed that the French presidency aimed to make the deal "as good as possible," praising an "exceptional political dynamism" at the talks.
"This text which is necessarily a balanced text… The proposed agreement is differentiated, fair, durable, dynamic, balanced and legally binding," Fabius told reporters.
The national ambitions on tackling climate change will be reviewed every 5 years, he added.
The Paris climate deal aims to keep global warming under 2 degrees Celsius, preferably not higher than 1.5 degrees, French Foreign Minister and COP21 President Laurent Fabius said Saturday.
"Furthermore, the draft decision to the conference provides that $100 billion for 2020 should be the bottom level for 2020 and that a new figure should be defined between now and 2025," Fabius added.
