"If you are asking me if remaining gaps are going to sort of, put a grind or halt on the process, I don’t believe Secretary [of State John Kerry] thinks that’s the case at all," Kirby said on Wednesday. "For him, it makes it all the more important to continue the process."
On Tuesday, Kerry said that the United States and Russia managed to narrow divisions related to Syrian terrorist designations during talks with Russian officials in Moscow.
US officials, Kirby noted, are waiting to see the terrorist list that comes out of Jordan before making any definitive statements on whether gaps between the US and Russian lists can be closed in the near future.
On December 18, Kerry will chair a UN Security Council meeting in New York focused on ending the conflict in Syria. The meeting is expected to include the same 20 participants who took part in the Vienna talks. Kerry will also host a meeting of the International Syria Support Group on the same day.
