Console, Inc. CEO and Founder Christopher Price claims that the insistence of the US government that technology companies create backdoor openings for access to encrypted data will harm US businesses.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The insistence of the US government that technology companies create backdoor openings for access to encrypted data will harm US businesses, Console, Inc. CEO and Founder Christopher Price told Sputnik.

"Demands that we put such backdoors in our software, will only aid foreign companies that lack such requirements," Price said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Senate could address the security concerns regarding encrypted data and communications potentially used in terrorist plots in the beginning of 2016.

Forcing US Companies to Disclose Encrypted Data Violates 5th Amendment
The Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution states that no person should have to answer for a crime unless an indictment is brought before them.

Price explained that from the standpoint of technology companies, education is key.

"Especially with policy makers who aren't aware of many of the realities of engineering software and devices," he added.

Price concluded that many companies already make their technology open to the community and backdoors would be visible to the world through its open source software.

The recent terrorist attacks in Paris, France and San Bernardino, California went undetected by US intelligence authorities, raising renewed attention to the possible problems posed by secure communications technologies in counterterrorism efforts.
