The meeting took place at the initiative of the British side on Thursday, December 17.
"The sides discussed issues of establishing quick communication links between the relevant bodies within armed forces of Russia and the United Kingdom to prevent incidents at sea and in the air," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a Thursday statement.
The initiative was first put forward at a meeting between Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov and UK's Director General of Security Policy at the Ministry of Defence Peter Watkins in Moscow on December 10.
Russia has been carrying out precision airstrikes against Islamic State (Daesh) radicals in Syria since September 30, at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
A US-led international coalition has been conducting airstrikes against the ISIL group (known as Daesh in Arabic and prohibited in Russia and many other countries), in Iraq and Syria since 2014 without the approval of the UN Security Council or the Syrian government.
The United Kingdom has been participating in the US-led campaign against Daesh in Iraq since 2014. In early December, the UK parliament approved British participation in coalition airstrikes against Daesh in Syria.
