KHARTOUM (Sputnik) — Sudan hopes to sign new agreements with Russia at the meeting of the Joint Ministerial Committee, which began on Saturday in Khartoum, the Sudanese deputy minister of minerals told Sputnik on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, the third session of the Joint Sudanese-Russian Ministerial Committee kicked off in the country’s capital Khartoum. The Russian delegation that included over 50 representatives of the public and private sectors was led by Natural Resources Minister Sergei Donskoi. The Sudanese side was headed by Minister of Mineral Resources Ahmed Karuri.
On Wednesday, head of the Sudanese Ministry of Trade's department of international relations Nafisa Mohamed Ahmed said the institution had prepared proposals to increase trade volume between Moscow and Khartoum.
Russia and Sudan have maintained a strong economic and political partnership, prompting Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour to tell the Russian media earlier this year that Russian companies could occupy a preferential position in the Sudanese market.
