More than 150 fires have been registered in northern Spain overnight, some of which could have been arson attacks, local media reported Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the EFE news agency, the situation in the regions of Asturias, Cantabria and Basque Country is being exacerbated by strong winds.

Some 230 firefighters and police officers have been deployed to assist with putting out the fire.

Five settlements have been evacuated and a major motorway in the region has been shut, according to the media outlet. The local authorities have activated the emergencies situation protocol.
