Reinforcements Arrive in Afghan Town of Sangin Besieged by Taliban
Military reinforcements arrived in the south Afghan town of Sangin, located in the province of Helmand, which has been besieged by fighters of the Taliban Islamic movement, media reported Wednesday, citing local officials.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Monday, Taliban militants drove government forces from a significant part of Sangin and continued their offensive.
Additional troops arrived in Sangin to support the besieged government soldiers and police officers, the BBC reported, citing the deputy governor of Helmand, Mohammad Jan Rasoulyar.

The broadcaster reported that the government troops had also received food supplies.
On Tuesday, the United Kingdom reported that it had deployed a group of military personnel to Helmand to train local security services.
Afghanistan is in a political and social turmoil, as the Taliban and other extremist organizations such as Islamic State (IS, or Daesh in Arabic, outlawed in Russia) take advantage of instability in the country.
