TOKYO (Sputnik) – Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida arrived in Seoul on Sunday to hold talks with his South Korean counterpart Yun Byung-se on the wartime issue. Earlier in the day, Kishida had talks with South Korea President Park Geun-hye, however no details of the meeting have been released so far.
"The comfort women issue is an issue whereby many women under the then military's involvement bore deep scars to their honor and dignity, and from this perspective, the Japanese government acutely feels responsible," Kishida said at a briefing with Yun at the South Korean Foreign Ministry, as cited by the Yonhap news agency.
On Sunday, Taiwan authorities demanded that any agreement reached in Seoul be also applicable to Taiwanese victims, as they were also coerced into sex slavery by the Japanese army.
