WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against Daesh (the Islamic State) conducted 20 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq resulting in the destruction of the terrorist group’s infrastructure and personnel, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release on Tuesday.
“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted one strike using fighter aircraft,” the release stated. “
The airstrike was launched near the city of Ayn Isa on January 4, which targeted three Islamic State fighting positions, according to the release.
The airstrikes were launched near six cities to the north and west of Baghdad, with 6 airstrikes hitting targets near Mosul. The strikes destroyed multiple tactical units and fighting positions, as well as other infrastructure, including weapon caches and mortar positions.
Daesh is a terrorist group outlawed in Russia and many other countries. It has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq and declared a caliphate on territories under the rule of Sharia law.
