Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis nominated Maris Kucinskis as the country's new prime minister on Wednesday following his predecessor's resignation last month.

RIGA (Sputnik) — The nomination comes as outgoing Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma, who continues to run the government until a new Cabinet has been approved, resigned in December 2015 over disagreements within her coalition government. The coalition parties failed to present their own nominees by the end of 2015.
