MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Migrants who do not intend to apply for asylum in Germany and will only transit through the country will not be able to enter Austria, Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner said.
"[On the German-Austrian border], only those who seek asylum in Germany are allowed to enter, and those who intend to continue travel are sent back. We are due to stop them right on our southern border [with Slovenia] starting the end of the next week," Mikl-Leitner told the ORF radio.
Germany has been sending hundreds of refugees back to Austria amid a scandal involving men with a migrant background sexually assaulting women in several German cities.
In mid-September, the two states resumed border controls to hold off thousands of undocumented migrants coming to Germany.
In mid-November, Austrian authorities tightened immigration controls on its border, in close cooperation with Slovenia.
