Jakarta terror attacks were a "wake-up call" for Southeast Asia’s intelligence agencies to cooperate more closely in the fight against the treat coming from Daesh jihadists, Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Thailand Gen. Thawip Netniyom said Friday.

BANGKOK (Sputnik) — According to media reports, Daesh claimed responsibility for the series of blasts that hit the Indonesian capital on Thursday morning, leading to multiple casualties. Jakarta police chief Tito Karnavian said that Daesh, which has been expanding its influence in the world in recent years, had started to spread into Southeast Asia.

The terrorist attacks in Jakarta "underscore the need of immediate and closer cooperation between security services in the region to gather intelligence necessary to prevent such attacks," Thawip said in a statement.

The secretary-general noted that neither Indonesian nor any other regional security services has had advance information about the Jakarta attacks.

On Thursday, a series of explosions hit Indonesia’s capital, leaving at least seven people dead and another 26 injured, according to one of the local police officials.

The Daesh terrorist group is outlawed in many countries around the world, including the United States and Russia.
