BANGKOK (Sputnik) — According to media reports, Daesh claimed responsibility for the series of blasts that hit the Indonesian capital on Thursday morning, leading to multiple casualties. Jakarta police chief Tito Karnavian said that Daesh, which has been expanding its influence in the world in recent years, had started to spread into Southeast Asia.
The terrorist attacks in Jakarta "underscore the need of immediate and closer cooperation between security services in the region to gather intelligence necessary to prevent such attacks," Thawip said in a statement.
On Thursday, a series of explosions hit Indonesia’s capital, leaving at least seven people dead and another 26 injured, according to one of the local police officials.
The Daesh terrorist group is outlawed in many countries around the world, including the United States and Russia.
