WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The sanctions include a ban on any financial transaction and freezing property and assets in the United States, the statement reads.
"The United States will vigorously press sanctions against Iranian activities outside of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [JCPOA] – including those related to Iran’s support for terrorism, regional destabilization, human rights abuses, and ballistic missile program," Adam J. Szubin, acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, said in a statement.
The move comes after media reported that Iran tested a surface-to-surface Emad (Pillar) missile in November in violation of a UN Security Council resolution.
On Saturday, the United States lifted sanctions targeting Iran over its nuclear program as global nuclear watchdog IAEA verified Tehran’s compliance with a nuclear agreement reached last July.
