ANKARA (Sputnik) — Two Turkish policemen were killed and five were wounded after the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants shot at a police minibus in southeastern Turkey, local media reported Monday citing authorities.
According to the Sabah newspaper, the militants shot the vehicle with grenade launchers. The shootout between the Turkish forces and the Kurdish militants is continuing.
This is the second PKK attack of the day in the Sirnak province. Earlier on Monday, three policemen were killed and four were wounded when the PKK militants exploded an armored vehicle.
Turkey's Kurdish-dominated southeast region has recently seen renewed violence between the Turkish government forces and the PKK since the mid-summer breakdown of a two-year peace process.
In July, Ankara initiated a military operation against the PKK in response to the escalation of attacks in southern Turkey.
