A Swedish doctor has been charged with kidnapping, drugging and raping a woman who was held captive in a dungeon-like bunker for six days.
Authorities say the man kidnapped his victim from her home in Stockholm after drugging her with Rohypnol-laced strawberries. He then drove her 350 miles away to the bunker in Kristianstad.
Police believe the man drugged and raped his victim during her captivity and forced her to take contraception pills.
The woman was released after her attacker learned police were looking for her. Authorities believe the doctor released her before the woman was taken to the Stockholm Police Station to report that everything was OK. However, police questioned her further and learned of her abduction.
Polie then arrested the doctor.
After searching the bunker, police found remnants of the laced strawberries, used condoms, syringes and a gun. He has agreed to drugging and kidnapping the womanly but not to raping her.
Police believe he had planned to hold the woman captive for several years in the bunker, which they believe he spent five years building.
The case is similar to that of Austrian Josef Fritzl who was arrested in 2008 after holding his daughter captive for 24 years in a prison under his family’s home.
