KHABAROVSK (Sputnik) – Special engineering units with Russia’s Eastern Military District (EMD) sought explosive devices using state-of-the-art mine detectors and mine sniffing dogs in the first tactical drills of the year, EMD spokesman Col. Alexander Gordeev said Tuesday.
"Military engineering units practiced finding explosive devices in an area during this year’s first special tactical exercises. They used new ‘Korshun’ mine detectors and involved mine detection dogs in the training," Gordeev told reporters.
The troops cleared paths using IMR-2 combat engineer vehicles, prepared troop maneuvers and repelled a simulated attack from a designated terrorist group, the spokesman added.
Mine clearing crews, wearing new"Sokol" protective gear for sappers, conducted a roadway reconnaissance mission, where they detected and deactivated anti-tank mines, trap mines, improvised explosive devices and trip wires.
