WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Washington is ready to take additional measures if Moscow interferes with US diplomatic work in Russia, US State Department deputy spokesman Mark Toner said in a statement on Friday.
"We are prepared to take further appropriate measures if there are additional efforts to impede our diplomatic and consular activities in Russia," Toner stated.
Earlier on Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow was indignant about the United States' decision to withdraw the accreditation of five out of six Russian honorary consuls.
Relations between Moscow and Washington deteriorated amid the crisis in Ukraine. The United States and its allies accused Russia of fueling the conflict and introduced several rounds of sanctions against the country. Moscow has consistently denied the allegations.
