LATAKIA (Sputnik) — The Syrian army with support of armed militia and the Russian air group on Tuesday assumed full control of the northern outskirts of the city of Daraa in southwestern Syria, an army spokesman said.
"This morning the units of the Syrian army and groups of people's militia with support of the Russian and Syrian combat aircraft, took full control of the town of Sheikh Miskeen and northern outskirts of Daraa," Brigadier General Ali Mayhoub told reporters at a regular news briefing.
The general stressed that the control of Sheikh Miskeen allowed the government forces to cut several terrorist supply routes as well as to ensure security in areas adjacent to the Daraa-Damascus highway.
