WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A service member in the US-led coalition against the Islamic State died in Iraq in a non-combat-related incident, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release on Thursday.
"This incident is under investigation and further information will be released as appropriate," the press release stated.
CENTCOM noted that casualty identification procedures will be deferred to the relevant national authorities.
A coalition of 65 countries has been carrying out airstrikes against the Islamic State terrorists in Iraq since August 2014 and in Syria since September 2014, but without the permission from the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.
The Islamic State, also known as Daesh, has been outlawed in many countries around the world, including by Russia and the United States.
