The collapse occurred in one of the so-called resistance tunnels — underground tunnels dug by Palestinian militants for covert infiltration into neighboring Israel and to conduct attacks in the border areas of the enclave, al-Qassam Brigades said.
Last week, the collapse of an underground tunnel claimed the lives of seven Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades militants.
The destruction of such facilities was the main aim of the Israeli operation launched in the Gaza Strip last summer.
The Israeli government has repeatedly accused the Palestinian Hamas movement, classified by the country as a terrorist group, of attacking Israel from the occupied Palestinian territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Palestinians seek recognition of their independent state on the territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, which were seized by Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War.
