MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia managed to promote its approaches and initiatives in relation to international information security in 2015, the Russian Security Council's press service said in a statement Wednesday.
"Russia managed to further promote [its] initiatives on the international arena in 2015 and strengthen its position in the international information security field," the statement reads.
According to the Security Council, Russian agencies in this field managed to gain international support for the Russian approach to the internalization of the management the Internet, based on the principal that all states should have equal rights to managing the global network. Russian initiatives aimed at providing sovereign rights to regulate and defend national Internet segments were also successfully promoted.
Russia considers that information and communication technologies should only be used for peaceful purposes, and that international cooperation should to be aimed at preventing conflicts in the information space.
