A key road has been secured by the Syrian Army and the country's National Defense Forces (NDF) in northern Aleppo Province, where the army continued its advance on militant groups, media reports said.

Dozens of militants were killed and many more wounded after the Syrian troops finally captured the Ma'arasta-Masqan road in northern Aleppo, where the army earlier broke the militants' four-year siege of two towns, sources said.

The towns of Nubl and al-Zahra, mostly populated by Shiite Muslims, have been under siege since 2012, and the Syrian air force has been delivering ammunition and humanitarian aid to residents during the siege.

On Wednesday, Syrian Army fighter jets pounded the militants' positions near the neighborhood of al-Rashedin in the city of Aleppo, as well as its northern suburbs of Bayanoun and Hratyan. If pro-government forces take these suburbs, the Islamist militants which control a large part of the city will be completely surrounded.

The Syrian air strikes also targeted militants' strongholds in the villages of As-Sin and al-Taebah, sources said.

Meanwhile, Daesh terrorists have reportedly confirmed that they have suffered heavy losses in recent clashes with the Syrian Army in Aleppo Province.

According to sources, at least 85 Daesh militants were killed in northern Aleppo, where Syrian troops, supported by Syrian and Russian air raids, have cracked down on terrorists in the past few days.

Russia's ongoing air campaign in Syria was launched on September 30, when more than fifty Russian warplanes, including Su-24M, Su-25 and Su-34 jets, commenced precision airstrikes on Daesh and Al-Nusra Front targets in Syria at the behest of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

In addition, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed earlier this month that advanced, super-maneuverable Su-35S multi-role fighters had begun their combat mission in Syria.
