WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — From February 4 through February 8, more than 50 countries will participate in the event.
"Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell arrived [on] February 4 in India to participate in the nation's International Fleet Review (IFR) 2016," the release stated on Thursday.
US Chief of Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson will attend the event "to help deepen maritime partnerships between India and the United States" in line with his "Design for Maintaining Maritime Superiority."
The strategy advocates strengthening the Navy’s network of partners, according to the release.
The Obama administration continues to pursue a "pivot to Asia" strategy, which includes strengthening its security cooperation with Japan, Australia, South Korea, India as well as with Southeast Asian nations.
