Schengen Southern Border Not Protected From Undocumented Migrants
13:04 GMT 06.02.2016 (Updated: 13:44 GMT 05.08.2022) The southern border of the Schengen area is not protected from undocumented migrants, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said Saturday.
BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — Earlier on Saturday, the second day of the European Union's 28 foreign ministers informal meeting dedicated to migration issues kicked off in Amsterdam.
"It is obvious that the southern border of the Schengen zone is not protected," Szijjarto said ahead of the meeting.

Currently, there are "thousands of irregular migrants entering the territory of the European Union on a daily basis from the south," the minister added.
European countries are struggling to find a solution to a massive migrant crisis as millions of people are fleeing the Middle East and North Africa, but also other areas. Over 1.83 million illegal border crossings were detected by the EU border agency Frontex in 2015.
In mid-January, President of the European Council Donald Tusk said that the European Union had two months to bring the unprecedented migration under control to avoid the collapse of the Schengen area.
