"Service personnel from the Kamchatka group's marine infantry brigade have commenced preparations for the Naval Derby-2016 contest taking place among marine infantry units, including BTR-82A armored personnel carrier crews from Russia's coastal troops," Martov said in a statement.
The competition is set to take place in August 2016 in St. Petersburg, according to the marine veterans' association.
The Russian Pacific Fleet's Kamchatka team took first place in last year's Naval Derby contest after coming out on top in the target shooting and armored personnel carrier obstacle course categories. Second place was taken by the Pacific Fleet's Vladivostok team.
The 2015 derby took place at the Baltic Fleet's Khmelevka training range. Service personnel from the Baltic, North, Pacific and Black Sea fleets, as well as from the Caspian Flotilla, took part in the competition.
