WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "[Sanders] best represents the values that Peace Action and its 200,000 supporters have espoused for nearly 60 years," Peace Action Executive Director Kevin Martin said in the announcement on Wednesday.
Martin praised Sanders’ opposition to both, the 1991 and 2003 Iraq Wars, and his support for the significant reduction of nuclear weapons.
He also applauded Sanders’ endorsement of the Iran nuclear agreement, his championing the reduction of military spending and general support of diplomacy over war, the statement noted.
"Sanders opposed the proposed Syria airstrikes in 2013, sending arms to Syrian rebels, and military escalation in the region with US special ops forces… making him deserving of Peace Action PAC’s rare endorsement," Martin stated.
Before the Peace Action board voted, it polled its supporters, and Sanders received 85 percent support, the statement added.
