The 30 second ad, titled “Conservatives Anonymous,” displays a mock group therapy session discussing their disappointment in voting for politicians who changed course after being elected. At the end of the ad, a new member walks in wearing a Rubio shirt, and actress Amy Lindsay remarks that “maybe you should vote for more than just a pretty face next time.”
The ad was pulled on Thursday, after the campaign claimed that Lindsay's credits had not been vetted by the production company. Interestingly, Lindsay had previously starred in a lesbian sex scene in "Secrets of a Chambermaid," while Cruz has been extremely vocal against marriage equality.
Beyond the erotica, Lindsay has also done mainstream work, with parts in Star Trek: Voyager and Pacific Blue.
“The actress responded to an open casting call,” Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier told the Daily Caller. “She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the casting company. Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad. The campaign is taking the ad down and will replace it with a different commercial.”
Lindsay is a Republican and a Christian, who says she’s currently undecided between voting for Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. Her Twitter account reveals she is not too pleased with the ad being pulled.
