ATHENS (Sputnik) — The Greek Coast Guard officers arrested two Britons of Iraqi origin in the port city of Alexandroupolis in northeastern Greece, located near the border with Turkey, on Saturday. Coast Guard considered the actions of these individuals as suspicious, the source told RIA Novosti.
The investigators assume that the British nationals were planning to cross into Turkey, according to the source.
“The authorities took this matter very seriously. The National Intelligence Service and the anti-terrorism office are leading an investigation,” the source said.
According to the source, the suspects were driving a trailer and carrying some 20,000 rounds of ammunition, four Kalashnikov assault rifles, sniper equipment and night vision devices.
