MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian system of Zika virus diagnostics may be used to monitor the health of the athletes at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, such a possibility is being discussed with the World Health Organization, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets said Tuesday.
"It is being discussed right now. Our specialists are actively working with the experts of the World Health Organization (WHO), and it is a joint work. We are ready to work together with colleagues, it is very important for us to ensure our safety," Golodets told reporters, commenting on the possibility to apply Russia’s methods of disease testing.
The current Zika outbreak originated in Brazil in the spring of 2015, spread across Latin America and gained widespread media attention as confirmations of first cases emerged in Europe and the United States in recent weeks.
