WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Jason Dalton, 45, was detained and named as the suspected gunman who allegedly opened fire at passersby in a buffet, a townhouse and a car dealership in the course of his five-hour rampage on Saturday.
The assault became the 24th mass shooting this month and the 42nd overall this year, according to the Mass Shooting Tracker. A total of 30 people have been killed in February and 31 last month, the tracker counted.
Mass shootings are defined as incidents in which four or more people, including the gunman, are fatally shot.
Dalton, who was said to be an Uber ridesharing service driver who allegedly collected fares in between the attacks, killed four people at a Cracker Barrel restaurant chain and two people at the Seelye Kia dealership. A shooting victim at the third location is expected to survive despite being gravely injured.
A previously reported seventh victim, a 14-year-old girl, survived the shooting in grave condition.
Investigators were reportedly searching for evidence at Dalton's home northwest of Kalamazoo to determine the motive behind the mass shooting.
