MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Jalal Uddin died on February 18 after being found with serious head injuries at a playground in Rochdale.
"Man, 21, and youth, 17, arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of Jalal Uddin, 64, who was found injured in a play area in Wardleworth on Thursday," GMP said in a short statement.
A Home Office post-mortem examination concluded that Uddin died from head wounds, it added without clarifying the circumstances of the incident.
A 31-year-old man arrested on February 19 in connection with the crime has since been cleared for release, GMP added.
Uddin was a well-known reciter of the Koran at a local mosque, according to The Telegraph publication. The paper claims he was assaulted on his way home after taking a shortcut through the playground.
Police are looking into possible racial motivations behind the murder.
