"I talked this morning… with [Russian] Foreign Minister Lavrov, and we have a team that will be meeting in the next day or so, the task force for the ceasefire, cessation of hostilities," Kerry told the US House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations.
Kerry underscored "I'm not here to vouch that it's [the agreement] absolutely going to work, but I'm telling you this is the one way we can end this war."
Later, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry had held a phone talk on Syria.
"In accordance with the instruction by presidents Putin and Obama, who approved a joint Russia-US statement on a cessation of hostilities in Syria… the foreign ministers continued to discuss the modalities of this process, which requires close coordination between our countries, including in the military sphere," the ministry said in a statement.
"Issues related to the hasty resumption of intra-Syrian talks on political settlement were discussed, as well as issues regarding cooperation in the framework of the International Syria Support Group and the UN Security Council," the statement reads. The two politicians also discussed current bilateral issues.
The phone talk was initiated by the US side.
