BEIJING (Sputnik) – A 47-container cargo train departed from the most northern Chinese province of Heilongjiang toward the Russian city of Yekaterinburg, opening a new freight route between the countries, Chinese media reported Saturday.
The Harbin-Ekaterinburg train transported $1.46 million in bicycle parts and light industrial products from mostly southern China, Xinhua news service cited sources with Harbin Commerce Bureau as saying.
Its 3,600-mile journey is estimated to be completed in 10 days.
Goods from southern China reached Russia via Dalian Port in the northeastern Liaoning Province in a 40 day ocean journey, before the new railway route was launched, the outlet said.
