Law enforcement officials later confirmed to the Liverpool Echo that 34 men have been arrested following the disturbance, with suspicions ranging from assaulting police, breaching peace and possession of weapons. Officers recovered a number of discarded weapons at the site.
"Yesterday we showed that we are willing to go into any situation no matter how outnumbered we may be," the far-right group wrote on its Facebook page on Sunday.
The next North West Infidels protest is scheduled to take place in Blackpool on March 12.
