WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "[T]he report I received this morning was that the first series of training went exceptionally well," Breedlove stated on Tuesday.
Breedlove explained that NATO just finished the first batch of training and is now starting the second batch. The training includes the Ukrainian National Guard.
"Additionally, we are training special operation forces of Ukraine," he added.
As part of NATO partnership-building with Ukraine, the alliance began providing military training to Ukraine in 2014.
The United States has also recently completed training the first generation of Ukrainian special operations forces.
The joint NATO-Ukrainian military exercises increased after the United States and its allies alleged that Russia was meddling in Ukraine’s internal affairs.
Russia has repeatedly refuted interfering in Ukraine’s affairs and warned that military build-up and exercises on its borders constitute provocative acts that can disturb regional and global stability.
