VIENNA (Sputnik) – Austria’s federal government has an upper limit of 37,500 asylum applications for 2016 and it is necessary to curb the influx of migrants to meet this number, Mikl-Leitner explained.
"False information by migrant smugglers leads to false expectations in the states of their origin. That is why, it is a matter of fairness to inform the people in their home countries about the tightening of the asylum laws in Austria. We are launching the campaign in Afghanistan, which will be spread to more countries," Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner was quoted as saying in the ministerial statement.
Such slogans as "No asylum in Austria" will be used in the advertisement, according to the statement.
The ministry said that the Austrian authorities had received 90,000 asylum applications, including 25,500 filed by Afghan citizens, in 2015.
