On Saturday, Ban arrived in Algeria to discuss the regional conflicts, including the Libyan, the Malian and the Sahrawi crises.
"The Foreign Minister and I talked about the deep concern we feel for the situation in Libya. I greatly appreciate the role played by Algeria, especially by hosting the talks held under the auspices of the United Nations," Ban told reporters.
Libya has been in crisis since the 2011 overthrow of long-term leader Muammar Gaddafi and the subsequent civil war. There are currently two governments in Libya: the internationally-recognized Council of Deputies based in Tobruk and the Tripoli-based General National Congress.
The international community organized several meetings between Libya's rival groups and factions in the Algerian capital. The negotiations were facilitated by the UN Support Mission in Libya.
