CAIRO (Sputnik) — Last week, the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) comprising Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait, officially declared Hezbollah and all groups affiliated to it, a terrorist organization.
"The Arab League Council has voted for the recognition of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Iraq and Lebanon abstained from voting, as well as Algeria, which is opposed to some points of the decision," Bahraini diplomat Wahid Sayar said following the Council's meeting.
In addition, the group has been assisting the government of the conflict torn Syria, which has been battling against extremists.
Aside from the GCC, Hezbollah Shia Muslim movement is, partially or entirely, considered a terrorist organization by a number of countries including the United States, Israel and the United Kingdom, but not by Russia.
