The Head of Russian Migration Service admits that Russia was not affected by migrants trying to escape from Syrian war.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — There is no mass influx of migrants to Russia from the Middle East, the country’s head of the Federal Migration Service, Konstantin Romodanovsky, said Tuesday.

"I do not predict a deterioration of the situation with refugees, even theoretically it is very difficult to imagine, because a large number of countries is between us, and there is no corridor like with Central Asian countries," Romodanovsky told reporters.

The Russian official added that about 8,000 Afghan citizens and 11,000 Syrians are currently residing in Russia, which is an insignificant number when compared to the country's overall immigration figures.

Europe is currently struggling to cope with a massive refugee crisis, as hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants flee their home countries to escape violence and poverty in the Middle East and North Africa. The EU border agency Frontex recorded over 1.83 million illegal border crossings in the European Union in 2015.
