WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Turkish authorities have so far detained ten individuals suspected of being connected to Sunday’s deadly car bombing in Ankara.
"Amnesty International calls on the Turkish authorities to conduct a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation and to bring all those responsible for the bombing to justice in fair trials," the statement said on Monday.
Earlier on Monday, Turkish media reported that authorities believed two suspects had ties to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which fights for independent Kurdistan and is outlawed in Turkey.
In late 2015, Turkey initiated a military campaign against the PKK and its sympathizers in the country's southeastern, predominantly Kurdish, regions. Since the beginning of the campaign, Ankara has imposed several round-the-clock curfews, preventing civilians from fleeing. Human rights groups worldwide have heavily criticized Turkey for its actions in which numerous civilians have been killed or wounded.
