KIEV (Sputnik) – On Wednesday, the European Commission declared an increase in its humanitarian response to help people affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine, with a new humanitarian aid package worth 20 million of euros.
"Today, the Finnish government announced the allocation of the next tranche of humanitarian aid to Ukraine worth 500,000 euros," Olefirov wrote on his official Twitter account.
The European Union has allocated over 146 million euros to aid those suffering due to the hostilities ongoing since early 2014.
Parts of eastern Ukraine have been experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis, caused by a military operation launched by the Kiev authorities in April 2014 against local militias. The latter refused to recognize the pro-Western government in Kiev, which came to power in 2014 after what they consider to be a coup.
