Paris Attacker's Lawyer to Sue Prosecutor Over Confidentially Breach
Sven Mary, the lawyer of the main Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam, plans to sue the French prosecutor on Monday for divulging his client’s admission, a public Belgian broadcaster reported Sunday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Abdeslam, who was arrested during Friday’s police raid in Brussels and formally charged with terrorism in connection with November 13 attacks, admitted to French prosecutor Francois Molins on Saturday he had planned to detonate his suicide vest but backed off. Molins quoted him at a press meeting later that day.
"A violation of secrecy of investigation. The reading of that excerpt at the press conference was a violation. It is a mistake and I will not let this pass," Mary told Belgium’s RTBF broadcaster on Sunday.
Mary, a leading Brussels barrister, said he was going to file a complaint against the prosecutor on Monday. He said that prosecution should take Abdeslam’s confessions with care since the suspect was still to explain his motives and actions after the attacks.
Abdeslam, a French national born in Belgium, fled the scene of Paris terror attacks on the night of November 13 and escaped to the Molenbeek district of the Belgian capital where he was caught after being on the run for four months.
