ANKARA (Sputnik) — According to the Anadolu news agency, the operation was carried out following a series of terrorist attacks in Turkey, committed by suicide bombers in Ankara on March 13 and in Istanbul on March 19, which killed a total of 42 people. The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK) militants claimed responsibility for the Ankara attack. This group is an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Concerning the terrorist attack that hit Istanbul, the authorities suspect the PKK and the Islamic State terrorist organization, which is outlawed in Russia.
At least 500 police officers took part in the operation. Ten more people are wanted.
