GENEVA (Sputnik) —The future of Syrian President Bashar Assad has never been an issue for negotiation, including at the talks on the country’s reconciliation, the head of the government delegation to the talks in Geneva said Monday.
Geneva is currently hosting talks between the Syrian government's delegation and opposition. Three opposition delegations are taking part in the negotiations: the High Negotiations Committee (HNC), which was formed in Saudi Arabia in December, the delegation formed following talks in Moscow and Cairo and the group formed after opposition talks at Hmeymim air base in Syria.
"As far as what the Riyadh delegation was talking about, about the president’s future, these words should not be dignified with a response," Bashar Jaafari said.
"President Assad had nothing to do with the intra-Syrian talks." Jaafari told reporters.
