MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Tusk's comments came in the wake of a series of blasts in Brussels earlier in the day. Multiple explosions at the Zaventem airport and metro in the Belgian capital left at least 28 people dead, according to media reports.
"The European institutions are hosted in Brussels thanks to the generosity of Belgium's government and its people. The European Union returns this solidarity now and will fulfill its role to help Brussels, Belgium and Europe as a whole counter the terror threat which we are all facing," the statement published on the European Council's website quoted Tusk as saying.
Brussels hosts sessions of the European Council, the European Parliament and several other EU institutions, as well as is a home to NATO headquarters.
